In April 2026, our team traveled to Florida Preparatory Academy (Florida Prep) located on Florida’s Space Coast, embarking on an in-depth campus visit filled with sunshine, aviation features, and a rigorous yet warm boarding atmosphere.

Arrival on Campus: A Sense of Stability and Order from the Moment We Entered
Florida was warm and sunny in April as our tour bus slowly pulled into the Florida Prep campus. The 11-acre tropical campus was quiet and clean, with a majestic Mediterranean Revival-style main building standing prominently. Aviation-themed decorations and student works were visible everywhere, creating a small yet refined campus that felt safe, well-organized, and full of heritage at first glance.
We were greeted by the school’s core management team and Director of Admissions, Ms. Jenny. Warm and attentive, Ms. Jenny quickly made us feel at ease, and the entire visit officially kicked off in a relaxed yet professional atmosphere.

Founded in 1961, Florida Prep’s predecessor is the renownedFlorida Air Academy, a long-standing private boarding school with an excellent reputation in Florida.
Grade Levels: 6–12
School Type: Private Boarding & Day School, Co-educational
Student Body: Approximately 130 students from 22 countries worldwide
Location: Melbourne, Florida, adjacent to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center
College Matriculation: 100% college acceptance rate since 1978
While the school is relatively small in scale, it excels in refined and strict management, a highly cohesive faculty-student community, and comprehensive, thoughtful support for international students. For young Chinese students studying abroad for the first time, Florida Prep offers a low adaptation threshold, high inclusivity, and a friendly environment, making the transition to boarding life reassuring and hassle-free.
Following the school’s faculty, we visited the academic buildings, Aviation Flight Center, student dormitories, and sports facilities, thoroughly exploring all the core campus areas that parents care most about.
Classroom Teaching: Small-Class, Refined Instruction with a Relaxed, Non-Cutthroat Atmosphere
We observed and sat in on various real classes, including math, science, and performing arts, gaining intuitive and profound insights. Class sizes are kept small, allowing teachers to fully focus on each student’s learning status and provide one-on-one follow-up and guidance. The classroom atmosphere is both focused and gentle, with a balanced rhythm—even international students do not feel left behind or overlooked, resulting in a friendly and supportive learning experience.
At the same time, the school demonstrates obvious advantages in practical and comprehensive ability training. Science laboratories are fully equipped, encouraging students to hands-on exploration and understanding of knowledge through practice. Performing arts classes focus more on building expressive abilities and self-confidence. Even introverted Chinese students who are not good at expressing themselves can gradually open up in this environment and achieve significant growth and improvement.

Signature Program: A Rare High School-Exclusive Flight Program in the U.S.
The most striking and impressive feature of Florida Prep is its unique flagship aviation flight program.
Few high schools in the United States offer a systematic and complete flight curriculum. Here, students have access to professional flight simulators, full-featured aviation theory classrooms, and experienced flight instructors, allowing them to learn aviation knowledge and engage in real flight training starting from high school. Whether a student is interested in aerospace and flight, or wants to develop scientific thinking, concentration, and overall judgment, this program provides an unparalleled growth experience that is hard to find elsewhere—and it is the school’s irreplaceable core highlight.

The school is equipped with exclusive flight simulation classrooms, where students can conduct daily practical training on campus, paired with a solid and systematic aviation theory curriculum. Florida Prep also has in-depth cooperation with professional flight schools, arranging 3 real aircraft flight training sessions per week. Outstanding students can obtain a Private Pilot License during high school.

The program offers three clear growth paths for students:
Exploratory Path: Fully included in tuition, no additional fees required to experience aviation and the charm of flight.
License Path: Systematic training to obtain a Private Pilot License (cost: approximately $10,000-$30,000).
Career Path: Targeted training for students aiming to become professional pilots.
Over decades of history, the school has cultivated hundreds of airline captains and aviation industry professionals, with visible aviation heritage and professional strength.

Athletic Facilities: All-Student Sports to Cultivate a Sunny and Resilient Character
The campus is equipped with a standard indoor gymnasium and a professional fitness center, offering a wide range of varsity sports: soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, swimming, track and field, baseball, and more.

The school adheres to a special philosophy: all students must participate in sports. Sports not only build physical fitness but also shape children’s character, foster teamwork awareness, and cultivate perseverance, keeping students in a sunny and confident state of mind.

Dormitory Life: Strict Yet Caring, Immersive International Growth
Boys’ and girls’ dormitories are completely separated, with a mature and thoughtful management system:
The school places great emphasis on cultivating regular habits through boarding management: fixed evening study hall hours, a unified lights-out system, and organized internet management help students gradually establish a self-disciplined and healthy daily routine.

The school also emphasized: “We always insist on having students from different countries—such as China, Vietnam, and Europe—live together. Communicating with each other and using English in real-life scenarios is the most valuable part of international education.” This arrangement effectively prevents students from the same country from forming small cliques, allowing children to broaden their horizons, improve cross-cultural communication skills, and gradually develop more independent and confident social styles—giving parents greater peace of mind.

In terms of living experience, dorm rooms are triple-occupancy, clean and tidy overall, with warm and comfortable common areas where students can relax and live at ease. Dorm supervisors act more like students’ “second parents,” carefully taking care of their daily lives, paying attention to their emotional changes and adaptation, and providing continuous and stable support in both safety and growth.

Daily Schedule: Balanced, Regular, and Humanized
Weekdays (Monday to Friday)
A balanced rhythm that combines study and relaxation:
Students who meet academic standards can register to go out briefly off-campus and must return by 18:30.
18:40–20:00: Fixed evening study hall to ensure daily academic review.
After 20:00: Exclusive free relaxation time.
21:45: Return to dormitories and organize personal belongings.
22:30: Lights out and internet disconnected to ensure adequate sleep.

Weekend Arrangements (Friday and Saturday)
Permissions are appropriately relaxed to give students ample leisure time:
No evening study hall on Friday and Saturday.
Latest off-campus stay time extended to 21:30–22:00.
Lights out time delayed to midnight (24:00), with internet available throughout the night.
The school organizes special trips to Disney World, SeaWorld, and other attractions.
On Sunday, students return to the regular schedule to adjust and prepare for the new week’s classes.
Home-School Communication: Thoughtfully Adapted to China-U.S. Time Difference
The school fully understands the practical needs of international student families and makes thoughtful arrangements in details. A dedicated video call window (20:00–22:30) is reserved for Chinese students, which perfectly aligns with the daily schedule of parents in China, making communication smoother and more natural.
At the same time, students are allowed to make calls in public areas outside the dormitories, ensuring the privacy and freedom of communication without disturbing roommates. On weekends, the internet is fully accessible, allowing children to spend longer time accompanying and communicating with their families, enabling transnational families to maintain close connections.

Holiday Arrangements: Full Support for Maximum Security
Dormitories are closed uniformly during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break. This arrangement is not only standardized and orderly but also fully considers the different needs of international students. For students who can easily return to their home countries, they can reunite with their families during vacations. For students who are inconvenient to travel internationally, the school provides full assistance in connecting with high-quality, reliable local host families, ensuring a safe and stable living environment during vacations.

What is even more reassuring is that many on-campus staff actively participate in hosting students—including chefs, teachers, and other employees—who open their homes to accommodate students, allowing them to spend vacations in a familiar and safe environment. This warm arrangement not only reflects the school’s sense of responsibility but also truly allows parents to entrust their children here with confidence.
Meanwhile, many current international students shared their true feelings: “My English foundation was not good when I first enrolled, but the teachers here are very patient and the classmates are friendly, taking the initiative to help me integrate. In just one year, both my language ability and self-confidence have improved far beyond expectations.”

The campus dining hall is spacious, bright, and clean. Daily meals are diverse and varied, including pizza, hot meals, and more, balancing nutrition and taste, allowing children to eat comfortably and live at ease in a foreign country.

At noon, we had lunch with the school’s faculty in the campus dining hall, communicating casually and in-depth about the school’s educational philosophy and details of international student care. This brought a fulfilling and rewarding morning of on-site campus visit to a perfect and reassuring conclusion.
