Campus Visit Recap | 2026 GE Spring FAM Trip Stop 1: Tallulah Falls School, Georgia

The 2026 GE spring U.S. campus visit journey officially kicks off. With great anticipation, our first stop brings us an in-depth tour of Tallulah Falls School (TFS), a boarding school located in the southeastern United States.

As the first destination of our southeastern U.S. boarding school inspection tour, TFS is nestled in the scenic Tallulah Falls area of northeastern Georgia, backed by magnificent state parks, granting it unique natural geographical advantages. Tucked away among mountains and forests, the campus features a peaceful, secure environment, creating a secluded academic haven for students to focus on their studies away from daily distractions.

Arrival & Welcome

Reception at the Main Building

On the morning of our visit, school buses arrived punctually at our team’s hotel to take us to campus. Right after we parked, the school’s main building came into view — a modern minimalist structure accented with the school’s signature olive green. Before entering the campus gate, faculty members were waiting to greet our group. They delivered a warm, concise introduction to the school’s history and the day’s itinerary. We learned that the main building primarily serves the middle school division (Grades 7-8), housing all daily classrooms and athletic facilities for middle school students.

Stepping inside the main building, hallways are lined with students’ artwork, including oil paintings, pottery, and collages in diverse styles. Our host teachers shared that students were preparing for an upcoming regional art competition with these pieces. The entire floor radiated a calm, focused creative atmosphere.

Main Building Tour

Main Building

Classrooms, Media Center & Gymnasium

Guided by school staff, we wandered through hallways and toured classrooms for math, physics, art and more. Through classroom windows, we observed small-class learning environments: students discussing around round tables or working through problems on whiteboards. Every classroom is equipped with smart interactive screens and ample natural lighting.

Located at the center of the main building, the Media Center functions as the core information and reading hub for the middle school. Beyond rows of bookshelves and digital research stations, curated student artworks stood out throughout the space. Framed pieces ranging from portraits to abstract art fully reflect the school’s high priority on arts education.

We then proceeded to the far right end of the main building, where an entrance leads down to an on-campus underground gym. The spacious facility features a standard basketball court, adjustable volleyball nets, and surrounding spectator seating. This space hosts middle school basketball and volleyball courses, practices and games. Unexpectedly, the ground level of the same area is fitted with comprehensive professional fitness equipment, including strength training racks, treadmills, and dumbbell sets, accessible for student workouts during breaks and after school.

Transition to Upper School

Scenic Shuttle Ride

After exploring the middle school main campus, we boarded school buses to head to the Upper School Campus. The two campuses are connected by a short 5-minute drive. Along the route, we passed expansive sports fields, forest trails, and scattered dormitory buildings. The upper school campus covers more open land with widely spaced buildings.

Dormitory Tour

Girls’ Dormitory & Campus Therapy Dog

Our first stop on the upper school campus was the girls’ dormitory. The dorm exterior is understated, while the interior offers a warm, cozy living space. Hallways are covered with soft light-colored carpets, decorated with event notices and student hand-drawn art. Each dorm room is fully furnished with space-saving bunk beds, individual desks and wardrobes for optimized layout.

One of the most memorable highlights was the sweet therapy dog greeting us in the dorm lobby alongside dorm supervisors. The dog is an official member of the residential community, offering emotional support to boarding students to ease homesickness and academic stress, while also acting as a gentle safety presence to alert staff of unfamiliar visitors. This thoughtful detail showcases TFS’s humane and caring boarding management. We also visited the boys’ dormitory, which follows a similar clean, well-organized layout, with shared lounge areas equipped with sofas, televisions and refrigerators.

Student Center

Student Insights & Premium Fitness Center

Leaving the dorms, we walked to the two-story Student Center. The first floor includes casual lounge spaces, a coffee bar and activity rooms, while the second floor features a multi-purpose event hall. We connected with two current TFS students here, who openly shared their daily learning and campus life experiences. They noted that small class sizes foster close student-faculty relationships, and the house system helps new students build friendships quickly.

Beneath the Student Center, a high-end semi-basement fitness center rivals commercial gyms in scale and equipment. The space is clearly divided into strength training zones, cardio areas and free weight sections, with professional shock-absorbing flooring throughout.

Academic Center

Engineering Labs to Biology Classrooms

Next, we entered the Academic Center, the core teaching facility for upper school students. Key spaces we visited include:

Engineering Classrooms: Filled with mechanical prototypes, circuit boards and 3D printing models, where student teams were testing small robotic devices.

Human Geography Classrooms: Wall-to-wall maps, demographic charts and student research project posters line the learning space.

Biology Classrooms: Fully equipped with lab stations, microscopes and biological specimen displays, with faint scents of lab equipment filling the room.

Library Center & Swimming Pool

Adjacent to the lower section of the Academic Center sits the independent Library Center. It houses an extensive book collection, along with group study rooms, quiet reading zones and digital research terminals. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a sprawling green lawn with panoramic outdoor views.

Right next to the library is the on-campus indoor swimming pool, a standard short-course facility complete with electronic timing boards and spectator seating. As shared in our subsequent information session, TFS’s swimming program has secured four state championships in the past five years, standing as one of the school’s most dominant traditional sports.

Grand Canyon at Campus Perimeter

After our library tour, we took the school bus across open grasslands to a scenic overlook at a nearby grand canyon surrounding the campus. Carved by the Tallulah River, this granite gorge boasts a nearly 1,000-foot vertical drop. Glancing down from the observation railing, the river glimmers faintly at the canyon floor. The school fully leverages this unique natural landscape to host outdoor field studies for geology, environmental science and other courses. For boarding students, this natural landmark serves as both an outdoor classroom and a peaceful retreat for relaxation.

Lunch with the School President

Our canyon visit concluded around noon, and the GE team was invited to dine in the campus dining hall with the school president. The dining hall features family-style long communal tables with diverse daily meal options. During the meal, the president and key faculty members delivered a comprehensive overview of the school’s financial background, educational philosophy and curriculum structure.

The following key takeaways are compiled from the formal information session held before and after lunch.

Core Details on Academics, Student Support & Admissions

During our visit to the Student Center, we attended a detailed briefing hosted by the school’s college counseling team. Key highlights are summarized below:

  1. School Finance & Coca-Cola Foundation Partnership

TFS receives stable annual funding of 14 million USD from the Coca-Cola Foundation, with nearly 7 million USD allocated to family financial aid. This exclusive funding model allows TFS to maintain relatively affordable tuition while retaining high-quality faculty and top-tier campus facilities.

  1. Character Education & House System

The school teaches a structured curriculum of 12 essential life skills, including embracing healthy competition and responsible resource management, to build a respectful, inclusive campus community. All new students are randomly assigned to one of four permanent houses — Owls, Ravens, Wolves and Hornets — retaining their house affiliation throughout their enrollment. Monthly house events provide institutional cross-grade peer mentorship opportunities.

  1. Academic Curriculum & Student Support

Curriculum Framework: Middle school offers honors courses; 8th-grade Spanish and forensic science courses award high school credit. Upper school provides in-person AP courses including Human Geography, Physics and Modern World History, plus additional online AP options through Georgia Virtual School.

Launched last year, the drone program prepares students for the FAA Part 107 certification, a valuable credential for college applications and future career development.

Fine Arts Offerings: Comprehensive courses in instrumental music, choir and theater. The drama program has won regional one-act play championships for two consecutive years, including a student original production last year.

Midmaster Experiential Learning Week: A one-week immersive learning experience held each September. Upper school students choose from on-campus electives (cake decorating, scuba diving, etc.) or domestic/international travel trips (New York, Costa Rica and more). This pass/fail program awards 0.25 academic credits.

  1. Athletics Overview

Over the past five years, TFS athletics has achieved remarkable milestones:

  • 5 state championships (4 in swimming)

  • 1 national championship (Precision Rifle Team)

  • 34 individual state titles

  • 116 student-athletes recruited by collegiate sports teams

The school offers 21 sports options: 10 women’s teams, 8 men’s teams and 3 co-ed teams. Track and cross-country are open-enrollment sports with no tryouts, welcoming beginner athletes. Most sports host formal tryouts, with Junior Varsity teams available for developmental participation. Note: The GHSA enforces a one-year competition restriction for new international students, while the GIAA has no such limitations.

  1. Admissions Requirements & Support Policies

Application Materials: Required submissions include Duolingo test results (no strict score cutoff), a personal interview and recommendation letters. The school conducts holistic evaluation based on academic transcripts and post-enrollment Star Reading & Star Math assessments for course placement.

Learning Difference Support: Families must submit official diagnostic documentation during application. Customized support and assistive technology resources are provided via the Learning Center for eligible students.
