The fifth stop of our 2026 GE Spring FAM Trip brings us to Windermere Preparatory School (WPS),located on the shores of Lake Windermere in Orlando, Florida. Renowned for its distinguished IB Diploma Programme, layered academic tracks, and a warm, well-structured boarding community, WPS attracts families from across the globe.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Florida’s iconic bright blue sky, brilliant sunshine, and refreshing dry air. Palm leaves swayed gently in the breeze, creating a relaxed, laid-back vibe unique to Florida.

Faculty and students welcomed our group warmly, and the school shared our detailed visit itinerary in advance. Now let’s follow our footsteps into Windermere Preparatory School.

After entering campus, the school delivered a brief introduction to our GE delegation.
Windermere Preparatory School is a private PK–12 boarding school with both local day students and approximately 140 international boarding students from around the world. Multicultural integration thrives here, with students of diverse backgrounds and languages walking and studying side by side across campus.

The school presented its core curriculum in detail. WPS offers a full IB Programme from elementary through high school, thoughtfully designed to accommodate culturally diverse learners. Its flagship IB Diploma Programme allows students to select courses across six subject areas starting in Grade 10. After two years of rigorous study, students take global standardized exams in May of Grade 12, with qualified candidates earning transferable university credits widely recognized by top global universities.

For students not pursuing the full IB Diploma, WPS provides Layered Learner Concentrations covering four pathways: Finance, Social Impact, Leadership, and STEM. Students only need to complete a minimum of three IB courses (including two Higher Level courses) plus a personal project to earn official concentration certification.
Notably, Windermere Prep belongs to a global educational network with around 90 member schools worldwide. This alliance opens abundant international exchange opportunities: students may join short-term study programs at sister schools globally, participate in international summits, and build connections with peers across countries. The school also maintains partnerships with Julia, MIT, UNSF and other prestigious organizations, offering exceptional resources for students interested in STEM and social innovation.

We then began our official campus tour, starting with the boarding village — one of WPS’s greatest highlights. We visited both boys’ and girls’ residential halls. Each house contains three rooms: one dedicated to seniors, and two rooms furnished with double beds. Dorm interiors are bright and well-organized. Common lounges feature sofas, TVs, and kitchen facilities, decorated with photos of student events. Dorm supervisors shared the daily schedule:
06:45 — Shuttle departs for main campus
07:45 — Classes begin
15:00 — Classes end; academic tutoring available
16:00 — After-school activities: clubs, sports, arts or independent study
17:00 — Dinner time
18:30 — Dorm meeting
19:30 — Mandatory evening study hall
21:00 — Free time
22:30 — Lights out

This structured daily routine ensures sufficient academic time while reserving space for social life and relaxation. Dorm supervisors serve not only as administrators but also as caring campus parents who attend to students’ daily needs.
Windermere implements rigorous multi-layered safety management. The campus is closed to the public with security stationed at all entrances. Many faculty members and local parents live on or near campus, forming a 24-hour care network. The school also adopts a Breach-Tracking Program to record all student check-ins and check-outs in real time.

Home-school communication is efficient and transparent. The school releases a weekly electronic newsletter to update parents and partners on campus news. Parents can stay in constant contact via WhatsApp, and dorm supervisors regularly share photos of students’ daily life. This open, timely communication greatly eases anxiety for overseas families.

Weekends are highly anticipated by boarding students. The school organizes diverse weekend trips to SeaWorld, Universal Studios, themed markets, museums and more, with school bus transportation and faculty chaperones throughout. On-campus weekend activities include karaoke nights, fitness center access, teacher-hosted hot dog events and more, making boarding life both relaxing and fulfilling.
We passed by the Middle School garden, a peaceful retreat for students to unwind amid busy academics.

Next, we visited the indoor athletic center, where the annual prestigious Athletic Signing Day was being held. We witnessed senior student-athletes officially sign commitments to join collegiate sports teams, surrounded by cheers and celebration from the campus community.
Besides this inspiring ceremony, we toured the fully equipped fitness center, featuring professional-grade facilities that support intensive daily training for elite athletes.

WPS boasts over 330,000 square feet of athletic facilities for sports training and competitions, including a comprehensive aquatics center with a large indoor swimming pool. Outdoor facilities feature a multi-purpose field for soccer, football and lacrosse, surrounded by running tracks, plus tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, baseball and softball fields. These world-class amenities allow year-round athletic training, helping students build lifelong responsibility and teamwork skills.

We continued our tour to academic classrooms, including well-equipped science labs offering specialized courses such as bioengineering, robotics, and computer coding.

We then visited the College Counseling Office and held an in-depth exchange with the upper school counseling team. WPS has four upper school college counselors and two middle school counselors. College planning starts as early as middle school, guiding students in self-exploration, interest discovery, and personalized academic pathway design.

Counselors provide tailored guidance throughout every high school grade, helping students make thoughtful decisions and move confidently toward university and future career paths.
This year’s college admission results are outstanding: 58 graduates received a total of 986 university acceptance offers, among which 364 are from top 50 global universities. Students collectively earned nearly $10 million in scholarships, and two students secured three appointments to military service academies including West Point. These remarkable achievements reflect the school’s rigorous academic training and personalized college counseling system.

Our next stop was the Cypress Center for the Arts, home to the school’s professional theater. The main theater seats 535 people, with an adaptable 300-seat flexible area featuring retractable seating and partition walls that can be converted into a large open venue for events and gatherings.

The theater is equipped with advanced technical systems: motorized flying rigs, full-color intelligent moving LED lighting, a premium audio system with over 20 wireless microphone channels, backstage scene studios for rapid set transitions, and many other professional functions. The stage measures 55 feet wide, 20 feet tall, and 30 feet deep, built to professional production standards. During our visit, students were rehearsing for a major high school musical scheduled to premiere the next day.

Our full-day campus visit came to a heartfelt close with a group photo alongside faculty and students.
From academic buildings and residential villages to dining halls, classrooms, and world-class athletic & arts facilities, paired with face-to-face conversations with college counselors and current students, our tour was rewarding and insightful. We truly experienced that Windermere Preparatory School is not only an academically rigorous international school, but also a globally connected, warm, and well-organized growth community.
